HIFU Skin tightening

HIFU (High Intensity Focused Ultrasound) is a non-surgical treatment that uses focused ultrasound to lift and tighten sagging skin on the face/neck and body. Collagen is stimulated by the ultrasound waves and the heat it generates. This results in increased elasticity and firmness of the skin. HIFU usually gives better results than laser treatment, as the heat is generated deeper into the skin. HIFU has the ability to go all the way down to the SMAS layer, which is usually only reached by a surgical procedure.

Introduction

HIFU (High Intensity Focused Ultrasound) is a non-surgical treatment that uses focused ultrasound to lift and tighten sagging skin on the face/neck and body. Collagen is stimulated by the ultrasound waves and the heat it generates. This results in increased elasticity and firmness of the skin. HIFU usually gives better results than laser treatment, as the heat is generated deeper into the skin. HIFU has the ability to go all the way down to the SMAS layer, which is usually only reached by a surgical procedure.

HIFU Skin

The heat triggers a proper collagen increase in the tissue in an effective and safe way. Most patients experience some immediate firming effect, but the biggest difference occurs gradually over 2-3 months after treatment as collagen continues to form. The most common areas to be treated are cheeks, chin/neck, but body and bust treatments also occur.

HIFU is a safe and effective treatment that increases the skin’s natural collagen production. It provides smooth and fine results.

Who are candidates for HIFU treatment?

HIFU is suitable for both women and men. No recovery time is needed, allowing you to quickly return to your daily activities. This makes HIFU a perfect treatment to perform at lunchtime. The best candidates for HIFU treatment are those with sagging jaw lines, nasolabial folds, drooping eyelids and eyebrows, double chin, sagging skin around the neck, fine lines and wrinkles, uneven skin tone or texture, and large pores.

What can be treated?

Examples of what we can treat:

  • Stomach
  • Inside thigh
  • Love handles
  • Above knee
  • Inside upper arm

How is the treatment done?

HIFU (high intensity focused ultrasound) delivers energy deep into the skin without damaging the top layer of skin. HIFU affects the dermis (middle layer of skin) along with the SMAS layer, which is the same layer of tissue that surgeons tighten during a facelift. HIFU generates thermal energy in the tissue which provides immediate tightening and collagen regeneration, safely providing long-term tightening effects.

How long does the treatment take?

The length of treatment depends on the area being treated and your individual treatment plan. Treating both face and neck usually takes 30~45 minutes.

Is the treatment painful?

Any pain varies from person to person. Most of the patients tolerate the treatment well without any anaesthetic. Any discomfort is only associated with the treatment and is temporary, usually lasting only during the treatment itself.

Result

Most patients get an immediate firming effect, but the major effect of the treatment comes gradually over 2-3 months after treatment as new collagen is generated. This renewal process continues for up to 6 months after the initial treatment. The results of each treatment usually last 1-2 years.

Things to consider before treatment

DO NOT perform a facial peel the day before/after treatment. For men, shave face before treatment, preferably as close as possible. Some people may feel a warm, tingling sensation on their face during treatment, others may experience a flush at the time of treatment, which usually subsides after a few hours. Take extra care NOT to be in direct sunlight for the next few days after treatment.

Is the treatment safe?

HIFU has been used in over half a million treatments worldwide and no side effects have been found. The treatment is FDA approved and CE marked. Ultrasound has been used in medicine for over 50 years and is proven safe and effective in

Are there side effects?

You may experience redness or minor swelling at first, and you may feel some tingling. These will disappear within a few hours. This signals that the process of collagen renewal has begun. In some cases, minor bruising may occur.

How many treatments are needed?

Experts agree that dramatic clinical results can be achieved with HIFU with improvements up to 6 months after the initial treatment. Touch-up treatments can be performed at the earliest after 6 months, depending on the degree of lifting and tightening that needs to be addressed.
